Trad Climber • Placing protection in the rock as you climb is the oldest form of roped rock climbing. Learning how to excel takes time and patience, but there’s no doubt that it will make you a better overall rock climber. Below is some of the best gear for trad climbing in 2021.
Sport Climber • There are more sport climbs and sport climbers in Canada now than ever before. Just last summer, we counted around 400 new sport routes added to the mountains and crags north of the U.S. Remember to ease back into the season, triple-check your safeties, wear a helmet and climb with experienced people. Boulderer • Bouldering sheds the weight of the harness and helmet and leaves you with shoes, chalk and a pad below. And that’s why so many people love it. Be sure to have a good spot and to spot others well. Below is some gear that will help you tick those V-grade objectives.
Home Wall/Gym • Home walls have been a thing for decades, but they became more of a thing over the past year. Nevertheless, more gyms are opening this year across Canada in hopes that by autumn we’ll be able to return. With that being said, below is some gear that works great at home or at the gym.
Van Lifer • As international travel likely won’t be a thing before fall 2021, you can be sure that every climber and their dog will be hitting the road. Road life can range from sleeping curled up in a hatchback in a Walmart parking lot, to rolling into the Smoke Bluffs in an over-the-top RV or Sprinter. Whatever your fancy is, below are some items that might just make your car camping days a little more comfortable.
