God acts in history

Prayer in the morning

Gospel canticles • The gospel canticles (or “songs”) come from Luke's gospel. In honor of the mystery of the Incarnation (to which all three refer), it is customary to make the sign of the cross as the canticle begins and to stand while it is sung.

Prayer in the evening

A prayer for each day June 2025

Not understanding • REV. GEORGE SMIGA

Vactioning with God • Bishop Gerardo J. Colacicco, a native of New York State, received a degree in history from Marist College before entering Saint Joseph's Seminary and being ordained a priest in 1982. He served in several pastoral assignments before becoming priest-secretary to John Cardinal O'Connor. Bishop Colacicco has served as a pastor, has served on the Metropolitan Tribunal of the archdiocese, and was named a Prelate of Honor of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II in 1999. In 2019, Bishop Colacicco was ordained to the episcopacy.

Importance of the heart • In order for readers to more prayerfully celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 27, the below excerpt from Pope Francis’ encyclical on the Sacred Heart is presented here. Titled “Dilexit Nos of the Holy Father Francis on the human and divine love of the heart of Jesus Christ,” the encyclical was given to the faithful by Pope Francis on October 24, 2024.

Our ascension joy • St. Leo (c. 400-461) was elected pope in 440. He wrote many letters and orations in his efforts to unify the Church, arguing for the authority of popes and also against heresies. He interceded on behalf of Rome with invaders to spare unnecessary harm to Rome and its citizens. In this sermon, he says not to despair that Jesus’ presence is no longer physical. Like the apostles, whose faith grew with the ascension, know that Christ's divinity makes him all the more near to us.

There is enough • Find a quiet spot to read, reflect, and pray. You may record your thoughts in a prayer journal, or share your responses with others in a group.
