Her husband, Moth, was diagnosed with a rare degenerative illness and the couple were evicted from their farmhouse, leaving them homeless. In The Salt Path, which was shortlisted for a Costa prize, Raynor wrote movingly about the long coastal walk they made in the following months that helped them come to terms with their situation and saw Moth’s health improve in ways he’d been told were impossible.
