Eastern Wyoming is Just the Beginning

THE ANCESTRAL SOUTHWEST A Window to the Culture, History, and Spirituality of Indigenous Peoples • I turn the steering wheel slightly to the right as I pull toward the edge of the empty road that circles the enormous Mesa—a tall, flat-topped rock formation. Walking anticipatorily toward the cliff edge, I see the sheer rock faces soar upward from deep within the valley to where I’m standing—hundreds of feet high. I peer down in disbelief at the ingenious architecture built into the cliffside. The structures are a testament to the ancestral wisdom and resilience of the Ancestral Puebloans, who once made this extraordinary landscape their home. An emotion rises from deep within me—this is a place I wasn’t sure I’d ever see with my own eyes.

THE STORIED AND REMOTE KEWEENAW PENINSULA • Taking a break from the connected world in remote Michigan.

SEVEN SPECTACULAR SOUTH CAROLINA WATERFALL TRAILS • Experience South Carolina’s wild, natural beauty on these outstanding waterfall walks.

A SECRET RETREAT OFF THE COAST OF MAINE • Maine’s Bold Coast is studded with coastal preserves, decadent pie, and—across the border—a peek inside the private life of FDR.
