Space is a specialized architectural monthly which was first published in 1966 and has been at the vanguard of covering the arts and culture scene here in Korea ever since. The magazine features not only architecture, but also diverse cultural and artistic activities across the spectrum of the fine arts. Space offers its readers a wide variety of architectural news throughout Korea, in Asia, and the world in general. What Architecture Should Do: KYWC Architects 건축이 마땅히 해야 하는 일: 경영위치건축사사무소 • Perhaps it is only natural that architecture pursues ethics, discipline, and aesthetics. However, the reality is that it is difficult not only to elevate all of those aspects of its design to a higher standard but to address them all in a comprehensive manner. In light of these challenges, Kim Seunghoy (Principal, KYWC Architects) once again questions the essence of architecture. The surfaces he offers are facial expressions of hospitality towards urban streets and are designed with the lives of users in mind; the structures he designs are the foundation of his architecture and intended to create a sense of space; and the details he designs express unique thoughts and serve to heighten architecture's level of completion. Bringing together the limitations and potentials faced within any given reality, he attends to the architect's social role and authorial desire and pushes them forward. This is what Kim Seunghoy presents in the four latest office projects as ‘what architecture should seek to do’.건축이 윤리, 규율, 미학을 추구하는 일은 어쩌면 당연하다. 그러나 이 모두를 높은 수준으로 끌어올리는 것은 차치하고 담기조차 쉽지 않은 현실이다. 이러한 고난 속에서 김승회(경영위치건축사사무소 대표)가 다시금 건축의 본질에 대해 질문한다. 그의 표면은 도시 가로를 향한 환대의 표정이자 사용자의 삶을 위한 것이고, 그의 구조는 건축을 세우는 동시에 공간감을 위한 것이며, 그의 디테일은 고유의 사고 표현이자 건축의 완성도를 높이는 일이다. 현실의 한계와 가능성, 건축가의 사회적 역할과 작가적 욕망 등 이 모두를 그러모아 앞으로 밀고 나가는 일. 이것이 김승회가 오피스 근작 4제를 통해 보여주는 ‘건축이 마땅히 해야 하는 일’이다
