The rosary and the court

Prayer in the morning

Gospel canticles • The gospel canticles (or “songs”) come from Luke's gospel. In honor of the mystery of the Incarnation (to which all three refer), it is customary to make the sign of the cross as the canticle begins and to stand while it is sung.

Speaking together

Proclaiming our values • Cardinal Blase J. Cupich was ordained to the priesthood in 1975. He served as a pastor of two parishes in Omaha and was appointed Bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota by Pope John Paul II in 1998. In 2010, he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as the sixth Bishop of Spokane, Washington and was appointed Archbishop of Chicago by Pope Francis in 2014. In October of 2016, Pope Francis named him a Cardinal. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in a consistory on November 19, 2016, at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

Can the rich be saved? • Find a quiet spot to read, reflect, and pray. You may record your thoughts in a prayer journal, or share your responses with others in a group.

Getting to know Mary • Stephen J. Binz is a Catholic biblical scholar, speaker, and award-winning author. His theme-based book series, Threshold Bible Study, has over 40 titles (available at twentythirdpublications.com). The below excerpt is from Mary, Royal Mother of the Messiah, a book in this series, especially appropriate as the Church celebrates October as the Month of the Rosary.
