Gospel canticles • The gospel canticles (or “songs”) come from Luke's gospel. In honor of the mystery of the Incarnation (to which all three refer), it is customary to make the sign of the cross as the canticle begins and to stand while it is sung.

Both new and old • Deacon Paul Covino is a liturgist, educator, campus minister, and author who has worked with parishes, dioceses, universities, religious publishers, and conferences in the United States, Canada, Germany, and South Korea. He is ordained in the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts, where he serves as the Director of Campus Ministry at Assumption University.
